He spoke with Jay Gibb, founder, and CEO of CloudSpace and the creator of CloudSponge, to examine the advantages of an interface that enables the easy sharing of an address book and the wealth of benefits that sharing technology provides.
“So I can go to my favorite program and it says they add your contacts,” said Morneau. “I click Google and I can download all my contacts from Google into the referral program and hit send.”
“Yeah, so our product is a JavaScript widget and so you can sort of choose the place, your user can choose where they have their address book,” said Gibb. “They pick one of the logos that we’re integrated with and then once they’ve authenticated and given you permission to read their contracts, then our widget displays their contact in an alphabetical list. If they’re on mobile, it’s got the little tappable alphabet along the right margin that you see with other software.
Everyone has encountered a website that wants them to share their contacts when they sign up for services or a refer-a-friend option. No one has that many contacts memorized and they don’t want to leave a webpage to share. Copying and pasting is time-consuming and the potential for errors escalate with each succeeding action.
Approximately 5-7 percent of people that utilize address books for referral marketing generally produce 50 percent of the referrals that actually get sent out. Address book interfaces are equally applicable for use with recipient lists for projects such as invitations, fundraising, referral contests, newsletters and it works with multiple systems.
Implementers of the technology will need to demonstrate care in regard to how and when those email addresses are utilized since they won’t be given directly to the company by the person that owns it. A number of businesses have been known to continually email a contact they received and that presents a very real legal risk.
Address book technology for referrals eliminates CSV files, along with the temptation to purchase mailing lists and blindly sending mass notices to individuals that have no interest in a particular product or service. The technology enables businesses to create relationships with others through mutual contact and has the potential to triple a company’s reach.
Making full use of an address book interface that can easily import contacts is a cost-effective option for referral marketing that’s fast, convenient, improves productivity and increases efficiency. It has the advantage of being able to reach a global audience, offers a high level of flexibility, and provides an excellent way to obtain referrals and leads.
