(I-SoftwareNews.Com, June 09, 2013 ) Port Charlotte, FL -- The Racine City Council this week is slated to consider a proposal from the city’s bus system that could shave as much as 11 hours of bus service from its weekday schedule each day.
Scheduled to become effective the first of September, the changes would reduce stops to once an hour, with the exception of two hours in the early morning and two hours in the late afternoon, to accommodate for work traffic.
The scheduled proposal would like this this:
Most routes currently pick up at the Corinne Reid-Owens Transit Center — the system hub located 1417 State St. twice an hour. Under the changes, buses would only stop at the center at 10 minutes after the hour 8:10, 9:10, and so on.
Those traveling between 5:40-7:40 a.m. and between 2:40-4:40 p.m. would see very few changes to their travel schedule, and still be able to catch buses every 30 minutes. Pickups would still occur at both 10 minutes and 40 minutes after the hour.
The commission is also still considering making route adjustments, but that proposal is slated to for council consideration tonight at a different time. This proposal would postpone the implementation of those changes until next spring.
If approved, the schedule changes would result in less than a 5 percent reduction in weekday bus service, could actually end up helping riders by making transfers more timely.
