(I-SoftwareNews.Com, June 23, 2013 ) Alpharetta, GA -- Snapchat and Vine, two examples of popular video messaging, had apparently been taking over what Skype used to offer. Now, Skype allows its users 25 free video messages a month.
The program is easy to use, but a significant drawback is that if users want more than 25 video messages a month, it’ll cost them $5 per month for Skype’s premium plan. The premium plan allows calls to any country, takes away all ads and group video calls. While that’s a dealbreaker for some, there isn’t much to complain about.
Short video clips have become increasingly popular with smartphone users. These types of apps allow them to film a quick clip and then send it to a recipient or post it to their profile (like on Vine).
To get started using Skype’s Video Messaging, all users have to do is choose a specific friend from their contacts list and click on the green icon that says video messaging. If the device has a forward facing camera, that camera will be the default one, but the backwards camera can be used. From there, it’s pretty straightforward. Skype allows users to title and describe the video, and then send it just like a regular message. It also allows users to preview the video before they send it.
Skype was smart to begin offering video messaging as part of their services. But, most users won’t be willing to pay for video messaging, especially if that’s all they are interested in, but it may also compel loyal Skype users to jump on the premium boat and subscribe.
