(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 08, 2008 ) San Jose, CA - Veteran professional, Julie K. Davis of Aon Corporation was the Keynote Speaker at the Mid-Year California Women’s Network Group Conference in Southern California this week. Entitled "Emerging Technology Firms Adjusting to a Soft Economy”, Davis’ Keynote address highlights observations of the market and includes panel participants.
Davis explores what it takes to succeed in todayÂ’s difficult environment and how traditional insurance agents and brokers can remain relevant and play a meaningful role in advising and counseling emerging technology firms on risk management matters.
As an veteran serving technology firms for over 20 years, Davis has witnessed the transition of this market segment once described as “active” to one of “special needs”, where it is impetrative that their risk advisors (insurance carriers, agents, brokers) learn more about the trends and business life cycles that drive success for emerging technology firms. Speaking from her strengths and experience, Davis focused her keynote on marketplace observations:
-CEO and Founders of emerging technology firms express uncertainty about the U.S. economy; however they remain optimistic about the global economy.
-Exchange rates can help those technology firms that export their goods be competitive in the market. We are experiencing technology firms “going global” much earlier in their business life cycle.
-While revenue growth is lower than previous estimates, most emerging technology firms are experiencing a slight increase in their total revenue projections.
-Emerging technology firms that have both U.S. and foreign revenue projections tend to be the firms that express the most optimism.
-As a result of cost increases in commodity and fuel costs, most technology firms continue to be focused on reduction of discretionary spending.
-A growing number of our early stage technology clients are planning to make major capital investments, make expansions into new markets, expand their services abroad and continue to seek strategic partnerships.
Davis commented, “All of these events have different risk management implications. We feel that any emerging technology firm that can balance the challenges of product development, financing and foreign expansions are making solid steps to ensure their future success. In addition, she encouraged early stage technology firms, and their business advisors, to reach out for help from their risk management partner.”
