(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 16, 2010 ) SAN DIEGO, CA – The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), the technology services industry’s largest and most vibrant association, announced the “Cloud 20,” a new research endeavor that mirrors TSIA’s popular “Service 50” index. The Cloud 20 analyzes the impact of cloud computing on technology business models, service portfolios, and partner strategies. Each quarter TSIA will perform its analysis on cloud computing’s 20 most influential companies and share the results in a quarterly report, Webcasts, conference presentations, and other means.
Cloud computing dominates the landscape as the emerging model for delivering and consuming technology. While much of the attention is focused on the pipes and infrastructure, there are new challenges and opportunities ahead for services organizations to provide the enabling solutions and services that help customers adopt and reap maximum benefit from this new computing paradigm. TSIAÂ’s Cloud 20 is aimed at helping organizations to better understand and gain the most benefit from this emerging business model.
The Cloud 20 index tracks the revenues, profits, and business models of 20 select cloud computing companies, following these statistics with these same businesses from quarter to quarter: Adobe, Akamai, Amazon, Blackboard, Cisco, Concur Technologies, EMC, Google, HP, IBM, Keynote, Microsoft, NetSuite, Oracle, Rackspace, Research in Motion, RightNow, salesforce.com, Savvis, and Taleo.
The first Cloud 20 Webcast was held April 1, with attendance by a wide range of businesses looking to gain insight into the topic. The opening keynote address at Technology Services World, the TSIA conference being held May 3-5 in Silicon Valley, is titled “Clouds on the Horizon” and will focus on the impact of cloud computing on product technology providers. Thomas Lah, executive director of TSIA and head of the Cloud 20 project, will be presenting.
“This new endeavor allows TSIA to provide our members insight into what cloud computing means to the companies providing technology solutions, and what it means to their business models and service portfolios,” said Lah. “We can now provide insight into the growth rate and market caps of pure cloud computing companies, and contrast traditional hardware and software business models against cloud computing models. These data sets will only become increasingly important as the cloud grows.”
