(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 15, 2010 ) SAN DIEGO, December 14, 2010 – The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), the leading association for today’s technology services organizations, has recently completed its 2010 benchmark survey on “PS Market Rates”—the association’s fourth annual study to date on the subject of technology professional services (TPS) billable rates. Participating organizations provided thousands of data points related to list and hourly rates for six PS delivery positions. Results from the effort paint a detailed picture of PS market rates and pricing practices across 34 geographies, yielding the largest and most comprehensive PS market-rate data set ever created.
One of the ways that many technology providers have tackled the dual problems of revenue recognition and excessive discounting of professional services has been the establishment of vendor-specific objective evidence (VSOE). The study generated an array of key findings, including a rich data set on VSOE/revenue recognition and pricing strategy and practices. Discounting patterns also were thoroughly documented. Additionally, analysis revealed that in order to successfully benchmark PS rates, a highly granular view is required.
“Analysis from the 2010 study tells a tale of two broad findings,” said Bo Di Muccio, vice president of research and advisory services for TSIA. “Overall, the view of PS rates is largely the same as what we have been seeing since 2007. Benchmarks vary by all parameters captured in the study, and actual rates are always less volatile than list rates. However, one key difference is emerging: Pricing performance is clearly improving. Discounting is down, while realized rates are up over the 2008 levels. For PS, the financial rubber meets the road in terms of an organization’s effectiveness at achieving rates as close to list as possible.”
