(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 01, 2012 ) New York - In February 2012, FunGamestoPlay.org conducted a survey to find the main reasons why people play online games.
It was an online survey that was exclusively for people who visited the FunGamestoPlay.org in February 2012. People were not given any incentive to participate in the survey. The survey could be taken by all people living in America who were at least 13 years old.
The survey was a huge success and 1466 people choose to be a part of the survey. However, our expert team had found about 130 people to be spammers or those who have submitted incomplete survey. Apart from a few basic personal details that were asked in the survey, some of the questions that were asked in the survey were:
The number of hours you spend playing online games?
Why do you play online games?
What genre of games you like to play online?
What are your alternate sources of entertainment?
These questions gave us an insight as to why people played online games and what were their alternate sources of entertainment. Some of the reasons why people loved playing online games were:
Free Time
The main reason why people loved playing online games is because they had free time. They usually played games when they had free time in their home or office. More than 300 adults and 200 kids who were a part of the survey said that they played online games because they had nothing better to do.
Competition
About 140 people who took the survey said that they played online games to keep their competitive spirit alive. Playing online games game them an opportunity to compete with their friends and colleagues.
Keeping their mind Occupied
About 100 people said that they played online games because they wanted to keep their mind occupied. Since their mind was occupied, it helped in reducing their stress levels.
Entertainment
Most kids played online games because it was an interesting and fun activity. Some of the games that kids loved playing were action, scary, puzzles, adventure, strategy and fun games. Many teenagers also loved playing simple games like cooking and dress-up games.
Improve their Skills
Some people also played online games because it helped them in improving their skills. Online board games like chess and carom improved their skills and helped them when they played the game with their friends and family members. Some people also played online tennis and badminton games; because it helped them in indentify the mistakes they were making when playing real tennis or badminton.
Love Violence
A few people also played online games because they loved violence and bloodshed. They loved the idea of running behind their enemy and spilling their blood. Violent games were preferred by males who were in their twenties.
Some of the alternate sources of entertainment for people were spending time with their friends, going out for dinner and playing outdoor games. A few people also loved to go to parties and social gatherings in their free time.
From the findings, it is clear that most people play online games because they are free and want to keep themselves occupied. However, people who play online games must not get addicted to these games as it can affect their work and family life.
