  • Alfresco Software Receives 2008 Editor’s Choice Award from Business Computing Magazine

(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 08, 2008 ) LONDON – Alfresco Software today announced it has been selected as a recipient of Business Computing Magazine’s 2008 Editor’s Choice Awards for the June issue. According to the editor’s review, Alfresco Community Edition 2.2 open source content management system (CMS) stood out as an Editor’s Choice Award winner due to its exceptional functionality and strong value.

Within each monthly issue, the Business Computing Magazine editorial team conducts end-user, out-of-box products reviews and selects those products which they feel are deserving of special merit and will also help readers understand the technology and how to implement it into their business. Business Computing Magazine noted that Alfresco was a “top notch open source CMS package” with “Web 2.0 functionality.” Alfresco was also recognized for its ease in publishing new articles on the fly as well its ability to add mashups, site maps, RSS news feeds and other items to aid in the appearance of the Web site.

“We are honored to be selected as a winner of the 2008 Editor’s Choice Award,” said Dr Ian Howells, CMO of Alfresco Software. “Business Computing Magazine’s recognition further validates Alfresco’s success and leadership in the open source enterprise content management market. Given our open source model, we are able to offer customers a flexible, componentized content manage system the leverages emerging social computing standards at a fraction of the cost of proprietary solutions, making it an ideal solution for the enterprise. ”

The Alfresco ECM platform delivers people-centric content management and collaboration tools enabling users to mashup and present internal and external content, and bring social computing capabilities into the workplace, while retaining choice over the selection of best of breed tools and ensuring enterprise-level security and control.

Alfresco has seen major adoption of its open source ECM system throughout the world. The company now has more than 450 customers, including the American Stock Exchange, Boise Cascade, Christian Science Monitor, and the Nebraska State Legislature. The community version of Alfresco's open source ECM has been downloaded 1 million times.
