(I-SoftwareNews.Com, July 02, 2013 ) Ontario, Canada -- Window washing may sound like one of the most dangerous jobs in the world, but actually, it’s one of the safest. In fact, window washing, especially when harnessed correctly, is one of the safest.
Earlier this year, The New Yorker published an article about janitors and window washers, noting that injuries sustained from a window washing job than driving a taxi cab. Stefan Bright, the head safety director for the International Window Cleaning Association says it’s pretty rare that anyone gets killed while working on permanent window washing platforms, which what the two men Wednesday were on when they became stranded.
In fact, Bright says, in collaboration with The New Yorker’s lengthy article that onle one person died last year on the job as a window washer, out of 646 falls that were reported from janitors, window washers and professional cleaners.
Devices that are used to permanently sustain window washers and other professionals on the outside of a building are extremely expensive because developers make sure they are at the highest safety level available. In fact, the one created for the Hearst building cost over $3 million dollars and can maneuver around the weird angles of the building.
Unfortunately, sometimes the devices get stuck, but the permanently installed power platforms are designed with several safety features to ensure that, when used properly, chances of a person falling off are highly unlikely.
