(I-SoftwareNews.Com, August 11, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to a news release by Dr. Diana Cheng, vice chairwoman of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women, pregnant women are perfectly safe when going to the dentist. Obstetricians and Gynecologists are advised to convince their patients to see a dentist during pregnancy. On the first prenatal visit a routine dental assessment should be performed, says Cheng. "We can all reassure our patients that routine teeth cleanings, dental X-rays and local anesthesia are safe during pregnancy," said Cheng. "Pregnancy is not a reason to delay root canals or filling cavities if they are needed because putting off treatment may lead to further complications." In the United States, almost 40 percent of pregnant women have some form of gum disease or tooth decay, the college announced. More than 35 percent of all women have not gone to the dentist in the past year. The physical changes caused by pregnancy can affect teeth and gums in many ways. Dental problems during pregnancy are most common in black women, smokers and women on public assistance. During pregnancy, proper dental health is important to reducing a child's future risk of cavities by reducing the transmission of cavity-causing bacteria from a woman to her baby. Dental troubles have been linked to other diseases, such as diabetes, respiratory infections and heart disease. Cheng says, "These new recommendations address the questions and concerns that many ob-gyns, dentists and our patients have about whether it is safe to have dental work during pregnancy. We want ob-gyns to routinely counsel all of their patients, including pregnant women, about the importance of oral health to their overall health.” About RecallSystem.com Recall System Pro (http://www.recallsystem.com/) is one of the leading practice management solutions, a patient recall system specifically designed for the modern dentist office.
