  • Wix Changes Server Infrastructure and Includes Html Component Feature

(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 24, 2010 ) New York, NY - Wix.com, an internet development startup company based in NY is introducing a series of new improvements to its website builder software, including an html component feature and server segmentation that will enhance the website's stability and open up new possibilities for future developments.

The servers segmentation is a solution created to enhance the stability of the Wix websites. Until today, whenever Wix technicians were carrying out server maintenance many of Wix's users had been encountering difficulties accessing their Flash website. To resolve this, the maintenance was carried out during the night hours, but as Wix has grown and surpassed the three million users mark recently, this solution was clearly insufficient.

By segmenting the server and shifting the core of gravity from one segment to another the "always on" model is created. This will minimize disturbances and improve the work flow. In the future, this segmentation is expected to open up new possibilities such as password protected pages and a differentiation between the 'save' and 'publish' buttons in the Wix website builder, which currently does not exist.

Wix is also taking will also be providing its users with greater flexibility by introducing a new html embedding component that will allow users to embed html code into their free website. This is also interesting in terms of the compatibility between Flash and html. Traditionally, Flash websites were known to be incompatible with search engines. This fact was changed by Wix when they introduced their new technology, which allows the search engines to view the text in a website as html, despite the fact that the website is entirely made up of Flash. Now users will be able to add actual html code simply into their Flash website. This will make it possible for users to add items such as a Google calendar, a blog, polls and essentially any other feature that requires an html code. This html component is another result of the successful 'wishlist' forum which Wix operates, allowing users to suggest improvements and vote for them, prioritizing the developments they would like to see take place first. The html component will be announced shortly through the company's official blog, to which an instructional video will be added.

Wix was established in 2005 and has its headquarters in NY and offices in Tel-Aviv. It is backed by Mangrove Capital Partners and Bessemer Venture Partners.
