A gearbox is an integral part of the wind turbine system, which is used to increase the rotor's rotational speed to match the generator speed. Gears in the gear box connect the low-speed shaft to the high-speed shaft. The rotational speed of the generator shaft is higher compared with the rotational speed of turbine blades. The gearbox in a wind turbine does not change gears; it maintains a single-gear ratio between the rotor and the generator. The gears convert low speed to high speed and high torque to low torque. This high-speed shaft generates electricity inside the generator.
