(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 28, 2011 ) SAN DIEGO, CA -- The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA), the leading association for todayÂ’s technology services organizations, is researching the latest best practices and trends on the topic of revenue recognition and VSOE in the professional services arena. TSIA Research shared some of its findings recently at the Spring 2011 Technology Services World (TSW) conference in Santa Clara.
Among the many things that professional services managers must master is working effectively with sales, finance, and delivery to enable effective pricing practices. Complicating Complicating matters is a group of rules and guidelines governing revenue recognition. Now, just when many professional services organizations are developing a good understanding of VSOE, accounting standards and guidance are changing again. At TSW, TSIA Research unveiled strategies for addressing revenue recognition, leveraging a recent executive focus group conducted by TSIA on this topic. Included in the discussion were some important points, such as:
• Common practices for enabling effective revenue recognition for professional services.
• The likely implications of new accounting guidelines for current revenue recognition practices.
• Strategies that have brought about improvements in managing pricing and discounting for professional services.
“There is no doubt the revenue recognition standards are changing for both hardware and software companies,” said Thomas Lah, executive director of TSIA. “However, it is unclear how much discussion is occurring between the finance departments and service departments regarding the impact of these changes.”
A slide deck discussing these trends and more can be found here. For more information on TSIA Research, visit www.tsia.com/research_and_advisory/research_agenda.html.
