(EMAILWIRE.COM, September 14, 2011 ) SAN DIEGO, CA -- The Technology Services Industry Association (TSIA)—the leading association for today’s technology services organizations—has issued a new report titled “Benchmarking Technology Professional Services: How to Use Industry Data to Improve Your Business,” authored by Bo Di Muccio, PhD, TSIA’s vice president of professional services research and advisory services.
This new report explicates TSIA’s unique approach to benchmarking and answers the question: Why should technology professional services (TPS) organizations benchmark their performance and and practices? But more importantly, it identifies the inherent problems with typical industry benchmarking practices, and especially with so-called “maturity models.” Di Muccio explains in detail the TSIA PS Benchmark Survey and how its robust and dynamic industry dataset and tailored framework addresses the specific needs and unique environment of technology professional services.
There are three key facets of the TSIA PS Benchmark Survey that are discussed comprehensively inside the report: (1) an established PS benchmark database dating back to 2005 and including hundreds of companies benchmarked; (2) an “always on” factor—meaning that the study is perpetually available to members for their anytime participation; and (3) a pragmatic approach to ensuring that the data supplied is rigorously validated.
“Our methodology is based on the notion of a ‘benchmark comparison,’ and not on the notion of a ‘maturity assessment.’ In other words, our methodology is specifically designed to illuminate where PS organizations are and are not behaving and performing like others in the industry, and not whether they are living up to arbitrary standards,” said Di Muccio. “Though the primary focus of this report is around professional services, the concepts are equally relevant for other disciplines. Readers will see the difference that TSIA benchmarking initiatives can really make.”
TSIA members may access the report on the TSIA website.
