(EMAILWIRE.COM, June 07, 2008 ) Burlington, MA - Astaro Corporation (www.astaro.com), a leading vendor of security appliances, today announced that the company will be working with Go Green Global Recycling company to recycle all of the Cisco PIX appliances received through AstaroÂ’s Upgrade Your PIX promotion. The ongoing Astaro promotion gives PIX users a 20% discount on Astaro Security Gateway appliances in exchange for their outdated PIX units.
According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), electronic waste (e-waste) is one of the most rapidly growing waste problems worldwide. The agency predicts that, within the next decade, more than 13 billion pounds of e-waste plastics will be produced from computer e-waste alone. However, the EPA also notes that, “The crisis relates not only to quantity, but also to the toxic nature of e-waste. Vast amounts of toxic materials such as lead, beryllium, mercury, cadmium, and brominated flame retardants are contained within the growing mountains of e-waste around the world.”
Astaro CEO Jan Hichert explains, “Astaro wants to do its part to reduce the physical waste and environmental toxins produced through the disposal of electronics that have been end-of-lifed. In addition, recycling the materials from hardware appliances will help to conserve our natural resources, as well as reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions that result from the mining and manufacturing process.”
