(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 22, 2009 ) SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Technology Services World, held October 19-21 in Las Vegas, brought with it major announcements for the services and support industry, proving to be the most powerful and vibrant TSW event to date. The most significant announcement was the merger of AFSMI, SSPA, and TPSA—the three leading professional associations of the services and support industry—to form a single, global association: TSIA, the Technology Services Industry Association. Also unveiled was a new book authored by TSIA president and CEO J.B. Wood, titled "Complexity Avalanche"—a broad exposé of the key trends driving the technology industry and the role services must play. The announcements were made by Wood during his keynote presentations on day one of TSW.
TSIA brings together a rich heritage—spanning more than three decades—of serving the needs of professionals across the full spectrum of technology services disciplines. TSIA will initially differentiate the core service disciplines of field services, professional services, and support services in the research and content delivered and the structure of programming and events for its members. TSIA will also, beginning in 2010, explore topics related to services discipline convergence and introduce research around additional service disciplines.
WoodÂ’s book "Complexity Avalanche" offers an innovative new approach for companies in IT, consumer electronics, office products, medical technology, and other complex technology markets to better map their services portfolio to their customersÂ’ true need: getting value from the product.
Other announcements at the event included the establishment of the new TSIA Executive Board. “The TSIA executive board will collaborate with TSIA executive management to strengthen the technology services industry, improve the operating and financial results of technology services business units and companies, and enhance technology services careers by defining important industry issues, trends, and opportunities,” stated TSIA executive director Thomas Lah.
TSW breakout and pre-conference professional development program sessions delivered robust messages that drove home the enthusiasm and learning of conference attendees. Other events included a welcome reception; breakfast, luncheon, and dinner socials, including a “Women in Services” dinner event; Technology Services Expo tours, sessions, and events; and an impactful closing keynote awards luncheon honoring some of the best and brightest minds in services.
A key message came across at TSW: If ever there was a time that technology services professionals needed one place to go, one voice to speak for them, one source of reliable data, that time is now. “The vision of the new TSIA is to support the rich and profound heritage established by AFSMI, SSPA, and TPSA, while also helping to usher in a new era of value-added services,” said president and CEO J.B. Wood.
