American International Group, Inc. (NYSE:AIG) increased 10.66% to $31.05 on 29.16 million shares after Dow Jones reported that that American International Group, Inc. has halted plans for an initial public offering (IPO) of its Chartis property-casualty unit, Bloomberg News reported on its Web site, citing people familiar with the matter. American International Group, Inc. Chief Executive Robert Benmosche told employees that he considers the unit a core holding, Bloomberg reported, citing two people with knowledge of the matter. American International Group, Inc. in April had said it was preparing for the sale or public offering of a minority stake in Chartis, formerly known as AIU Holdings.
Athersys, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATHX) soared 131.25% to $5.55 on 45.75 million shares after Dow Jones reported that Athersys agreed a deal with Pfizer to develop and commercialize MultiStem, its investigational stem cell therapy, for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. Athersys said it will receive an upfront cash payment of $6 million from Pfizer, as well as research funding and support during the initial phase of the collaboration. In addition, Athersys is eligible to receive milestone payments of up to $105 million and tiered royalties on worldwide sales.
