(EMAILWIRE.COM, March 03, 2010 ) LONDON, UK - Alfresco Software, the leader in open source enterprise content management (ECM) solutions, today announced an early-access Beta program for Alfresco SMB Edition, a turn-key, self-managed, ready-to-use cloud-based appliance designed for Amazon EC2. This new version of Alfresco SoftwareÂ’s popular ECM and social collaboration product is designed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMB).
The Alfresco SMB Edition will offer a pre-configured Alfresco Cloud appliance that combines the Alfresco server, Alfresco Explorer and Alfresco Share into an easily consumable, on-demand offering aimed at SMBs with up to a maximum of 100 users and 200GB of document storage.
These appliances are hosted on Amazon EC2 and made available as paid Amazon Machine Images (AMIs). These images are pre-configured with all the necessary software to allow SMBs to benefit from the productivity gains enabled through Alfresco's content-centric collaboration capabilities. This low-cost service is made available exclusively through Amazon EC2. Alfresco has partnered with JumpBox, who specialize in building software appliances, to develop Alfresco SMB.
This follows a series of cloud announcements from Alfresco building on the Cloud Content Application Developer program, launched in September last year, the Enterprise Cloud trial and the RightScale partnership, both announced in December.
"From the very start, Alfresco has had a vision of providing low-cost, fully-featured ECM to the masses. The advent of cloud-based solutions accelerates that goal while also offering a path for large-scale clustered deployments. SMBs want the simplicity and rapid consumability of a cloud appliance. This solution has been specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses with that in mind," commented John Powell, CEO of Alfresco Software.

General availability of Alfresco SMB is expected at the end of the second quarter of 2010.
